Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I. and Star Wars

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 is one of the darker Harry Potter films.  However, I don't feel that it is very similar to Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.  In Deathly Hallows Harry is already well aware of who the villain truly is, as where in Empire Strikes Back Luke doesn't discover who Darth Vader really is until the infamous finale of the film.  Another difference between the two films is that the supporting roles love story status.  In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Hermoine and Ron are already together and care about each other.  In Star Wars Episode V The Empire Strikes Back, Han and Leia basically don't start their relationship until this movie is nearly finished.
The next biggest difference is that In Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 1, Harry never gets to have a one on one confrontation with the nemesis Voldemort.  In Star Wars Episode V The Empire Strikes Back Luke gets to face Darth Vader one on one in Bespin Cloud City's carbonite chamber.  Last but not least, in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, Harry is already fully developed and has completely grown into the wizard that he is, and will be when he finally does face Voldemort.  However, In Star Wars Episode V The Empire Strikes Back, Luke is still growing as a Jedi and is not ready to face Darth Vader.

  1. Good points on comparing the stages of character development in both films. I think that even though Luke wasn't aware of Vader's identity, as his father Anakin is important, but he was still aware that Vader and the Emperor were the bad guys of the Empire that he had to go on the journey to become a full Jedi to face again. The fight between Luke and Vader at Cloud City is huge man, Vader cuts off his right hand and then offer's Luke a chance to join him on the dark side and ruling the galaxy, and whats he do, jump down the airshaft to a possible death. Harry Potter I think has a bit more fleshing out into a full wizard in the final film for when he does face Voldemort alone to come out alive and victorious.
