Due Date and Planes, Trains, and Automobiles are both very similar buddy love movies. They both are about a guy who needs to get home to his family for a special event. In Due Date he needs to get home for the birth of his child and in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles he needs to get home for Thanksgiving. Both films also feature a very problematic buddy that ventures with the main character with the intention to help him, but ultimately everything he does causes problems for our hero and delays his arrival home.
In both films the buddy is a lonely person who has lost someone that cared deeply for. In Planes, Trains, and Automobiles he has lost his wife, and in Due Date he has lost his father. The last similarity is that in both film the hero finally gets home with the assistance of the buddy and ultimately embraces the buddy for what he really is, a friend.
Overall, both films are very entertaining and are very hilarious. Both films coincidentally for him happen to contain my favorite performance from both the buddies.
