The Social Network and Citizen Kane

The Social Network and Citizen Kane are both films about people who started a new form of communication that shocked society and became wildly successful.  Another big similarity that the two films feature is that the protagonists in the films don't really care about money, however in creating their website or newspaper they make a tremendous amount of cash, and become some of the wealthiest people in the world because of it.
In The Social Network the protagonist Mark Zuckerberg is a very lonely person who, due to his creation, actually loses his only true friend and will go on through his life relatively alone and surrounded by business people and people that are along for the ride.  This is pretty similar to Kane, except that he has died at the beginning of the film, and they flash through his life to show that he always felt like he was truly alone and never really was surrounded by the people he wanted to be with, but rather people that were along for the ride and a couple of women that he had throughout life.
As I touched on in the previous paragraph, the time in the protagonist's life that the events of the films take place in is really what separates the two.  For The Social Network it is taking place during the life of Mark Zuckerberg, and for Citizen Kane  the film is taking place after Kane has already died.
